The Respite Program at Smith Community Mental Health offers the much needed service of specialty childcare structured to manage and meet the needs of children who have been identified as emotionally handicapped, severely emotionally disturbed or at risk for such issues. While in care, the student will take part in skill building groups which emphasize teamwork and cooperative learning through playful physical activities that improve students’ critical thinking skills for problem solving, social skills, social adjustment, and adaptive behaviors. In addition, youth participate in recreational and leisure activities. For more information or to set up an assessment for program eligibility, call Stefanie Pidal at 954-321-2296 x214 or cell 954-328-7064.
